Background
Transnational networks of vocational education and training providers, companies & universities are ideally suited to strengthen the labor market relevance of vocational education and training offerings. Furthermore, the EU Commission pursues strategies in the areas of digital skills and AI that aim to strengthen digital education and to secure Europe's competitiveness in AI. The “Union of Skills” explicitly announces an initiative on AI in education and training, which aims to establish an AI literacy framework and support the integration of AI into education and training provision. One of the aims of the Digital Education Action Plan (2021–2027) is the promotion of digital skills for all age groups and the Improvement of digital teaching. The European Digital Competence Framework gives guidance for educational institutions. The Digital Decade 2030 promotes digital education initiatives and upskilling programs, the European AI Strategy promotes trustworthy, ethical, and human-centric AI. AIEx contributes to these goals through an interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge.
Objectives
The expected outcomes are concrete and directly useful: learners gain more realistic, employment‑relevant learning tasks; teachers receive ready‑to‑use scenarios and competence mappings; workplace trainers receive implementable approaches for training. To achieve this, the consortium will create an operational Open-Access handbook that compiles and translates the project’s workshop findings into ready-to-use, practice-oriented materials. The goal of AIEx is the creation of common knowledge relevant to the European population in the fields of digital transformation and AI.
Methods
By conducting topic-specific workshops involving participants from different target groups, the project aims to enhance awareness and impart practical knowledge in the realms of AI in STEM occupational fields. By including different occupational classes, the principle of lifelong learning is pursued. The target groups, seldom collaborate, are encouraged to engage in direct dialogue in a secure environment instead of discussing each other in isolation. This enables the creation of common solutions and at the same time promotes critical interdisciplinary thinking.
